Conversion of 19th century barn to a residenceEast Fishkill, NY

This barn had been unused for decades but the interior chestnut beams were in excellent condition. The milking stalls in the lowest level had very low headroom so we raised the entire barn 3'. The main room on this side is 2-1/2 stories in height. The cupola at the top functions as a ventilator, utilizing natural updrafts to cool the house in the evening while modulating temperatures during the day.
